Angie came into care after her owner had a few changes in family circumstances and needed to re-home her. Angie grew up with a cat and kitten but has not been exposed to many other dogs in the past. It was a very difficult decision for her family to re-home her, we appreciate them entrusting Angie to us and we are happy to assist Angie in finding a new forever home.
Angie's former owner describes her as: "energetic and loving" she states that Angie "loves to play". Angie's former owner says she loves attention but "can be sulky if she doesn't get her own way."
Angie's foster carer describes her as follows: "Angie takes a little while to come around but once she feels comfortable is very friendly but strong willed."
Angie is clever and food motivated, so she will be easy to train. Angie is learning "sit", "come" and other basic commands in foster care. Angie is also learning how to walk nicely on a harness and lead - at present she is prone to "pulling".
Angie is not used to her crate at present and we are working with her. Angie will need to be consistently crate trained, if her Adopter would prefer her to sleep in the crate in evenings. Angie isn't a barker but will let you know if someone comes to the home.
We are not sure how Angie would be around children - any children in the home would need to be older and doggy-experienced. Angie does seem to prefer and quickly bond with males. She is being fostered with a couple at present, their maine-coon cats and Chihuahuas. Angie gets on well with the other dogs now she has adjusted to them. She is fine with cats (although she does like to play rough - pulling tails etc!)
Angie has a very quirky, energetic and playful side. However, she is a bit of a "diamond in the rough" just learning the social skills associated with being a pet dog. Angie has been subject to a fair bit of change in her short life so she does take some time to feel comfortable. Once she is, you will have a loyal little friend for life!
Angie is fine with older children (say 7 years plus) but we recommend supervision and ensuring that children are aware of her boundaries and do not overwhelm her.
Angie has been flea and worm treated, vaccinated up to date and de-sexed. Angie will be micro-chipped and registered with the NZCAR.
Angie is yet to have her preliminary check with our Vet. Any issues found will be corrected and/or disclosed here.
Angie has just come into trust care and needs to have her preliminary vet check.
Once we know Angie better we will be able to complete her profile and adopter requirements.
Angie will spend some time in foster care so we can discover her personality and the type of adopter she needs.
*** Thank you for your interest in Angie, however she has attended a successful meet and greet and will be going on trial with a family shortly. Accordingly, we are NOT taking any further applications for Angie at this stage.***
- Angie is to be homed in the Christchurch or local Canterbury area. The reason being she will require integration into her foster home and the full support of NZCR. Please do NOT apply from outside of Canterbury.
- Angie would need someone who is in the home a fair amount of the time, she would not suit being left alone. No full time workers. Part time, active yet retired or someone working from home would suit Angie.
- No young children in the home. Children would need to be around 8+years and doggy-knowledgeable / understanding of giving Angie space.
- Angie would be best suited as the solo dog in the home, she is OK with other dogs she knows, but does take time to warm up.
- Angie is OK around confident cats, although she does play rough!
- Rescue dog knowledge and/or dog behavior and training knowledge would be an asset in terms of Angie.
- Angie will need a fairly active Adopter. Angie is full of energy, she loves to play, go for walks and drives.
- Must have a fully fenced home with no holes or gaps that she could fit through.
NOTE: Before applying for our dogs, please do read the above adopter requirements and ensure that you meet these. We are very clear about the homes we are seeking. We set the adopter requirements after consultation with the foster carers and consideration of the dogs, needs, welfare and personality. They are strict requirements - no exceptions. Please do not submit an application if you do not meet the above, we will simply respond to confirm the application is declined. Unfortunately, at times this has been the case and we have had to disappoint prospective adopters. This is why we are clear about our requirements prior and note them above.
Adoption Fee: $400.00 for Angie.
Fee determined by taking into account age, health and funds expended to date. Please note: sorry we do not accept payment plans, as we need to be sure adopters are able to financially support dogs prior to adoption. The deposit needs to be made to the trust account prior to the dog going on trial. The full100% of all adoption fees go towards the dogs in the care of the Trust.
