Background:
Surrendered due to personal circumstances of the owner who was her fourth owner. Former owner states that she came from a Breeder and has had two litters prior. No further details provided.
Bobbie is a DogsNZ registered, pedigree "papered" dog. Her papers will be transferred to the new owner.
Personality:
Bobbie's former owner says Bobbie is a quiet, lovely-natured dog, who loves pats, cuddles and attention. Bobbie can be a bit timid or unsure around new people - she takes time to get used to strangers but warms up quickly once she feels safe. Once she likes you she is a perfect little companion!
Bobbie is a clever little dog, always eager to learn new tricks. Her owner says that Bobbie loves sunbathing, hiding under blankets, and following owner around the home.
Bobbie's former owner says she’s good with: other dogs (big or small), but we are not sure about cats or small animals yet as she has not been around them. Bobbie is not good around young kids.
Bobbie's former owner says she is not very keen on walks - she likes slow walks, of not more than ten minutes. Bobbie can be unsure in public with too many strangers around and doesn’t like busy streets. She needs to be exposed to "new" situations slowly and with support.
Bobbie is used to company during the day, so wouldn't be suitable for a full time worker. Bobbie likes trips in the car but can become restless and doesn’t like to be left alone for more than say 10-15mins in the car.
Health:
Bobbie visited our vet for her check up and to take bloods on 31/12/2020. The bloods show slightly raised kidney enzymes but all else is clear and she is fit to undergo anesthetic.
Bobbie has a grade 1 heart murmur, she does not require medication at present as it is very faint.
Bobbie is hard of hearing - she can hear loud or high-pitched tones, but little else.
Bobbie had a dental on 04/01/2021 and all teeth had to be removed, due to the fact they were all rotten and oozing. Bobbie is on antibiotics for her infection in the gums. Our vet also found a small mass on the inside of her mouth that was also x-rayed. It shows no teeth are present inside. We are keeping an eye on this while the mouth heals. The positive being - no more dentals for Bobbie!
Bobbie has very poor conformation of her hips and knees. Her right knee bends in a very unnatural way, although it doesn’t seem to affect her energy levels. They were x-rayed on 04/01/2021 and no injuries are present. We do feel she will benefit from some physio and will be implementing this to build up the muscle in the area which will only assist her. Bobbie is also on Synovan injections (for inflammation) to assist with the hips and knees.
Bobbie had one large pronounced blue mammary lump which was removed and tested on 04/01/2021. The results show it was a simple “ductal adenoma”. This is a benign glandular tumor of the breast that usually fills and becomes distended. Bobbie has one-less nipple, but it's barely noticeable!
Bobbie needs some condition added to her body. Bobby is underweight with muscle wastage in her back end. We have begun her on a quality diet with supplements to assist. Bobbie's owner reports that she can only eat dog roll, as anything else makes her ill. We are currently feeding her on the raw diet which is working well.
Bobbie has been micro-chipped and the chip is registered with the Council and NZCAR databases. Bobbie has been flea and wormed every 3 months during her time in care.
Help us to Help Bobbie!
Bobbie will need a fair bit of financial assistance in order to address her medical concerns and ensure she is fit for adoption. Donations received for Bobbie will go towards: blood testing, flea and worming, de-sexing costs, dental costs, specialist food costs and any medications required.
New Zealand Chihuahua Rescue is a New Zealand Registered Charity run completely by volunteers. Nobody is paid to participate in our Rescue and 100% of the profits go back into the dogs in our care and community dogs needing assistance. We receive no public funding or grants. Our entire income to assist these dogs is derived from kind donations, sponsorship and fundraising projects. We are always short of money and it impacts how many dogs we can assist as each dog that comes into care needs some form of medical and/or behavioral assistance!
If you could help Bobbie by donating to her cause, all donations, small or large, help us to help her! Please also contact us for a receipt and you can recieve 33.33% of your donation back from the IRD.

Next Steps:
Once Bobbie has recovered from her dental and mammary surgery. We will be able to vaccinate her up to date and spay her.
Adopter Requirements:
- Bobbie is being fostered in Christchurch and requires a local home. Please do not apply from outside of Canterbury.
- Bobbie would be fine as a solo dog as she can be possessive of the attention and "her person". Would be fine with another dog of a similar energy who is submissive. Bobbie would not be suited as a companion to a younger pup.
- To be homed with older children only (6-8 years plus).
- Must have a fully fenced back yard with no holes or gaps.
- Bobbie is used to daytime company. Bobs will require an Adopter who works part time, works from home (permanently), or is retired. Please do not apply if a full time worker.
- Adopter should be willing to remain engaged with Animal Physio for Bobbie's benefit.
* Bobbie's adopter requirements may be amended in due course.
NOTE: Before applying for our dogs, please do read the above adopter requirements and ensure that you meet these. We are very clear about the homes we are seeking. We set the adopter requirements after consultation with the foster carers and consideration of the dogs, needs, welfare and personality. They are strict requirements - no exceptions. Please do not submit an application if you do not meet the above, we will simply respond to confirm the application is declined. Unfortunately, at times this has been the case and we have had to disappoint prospective adopters. This is why we are clear about our requirements prior and note them above.
Adoption Fee & Transfer of Papers Fee: $330.00 (Please note: $300.00 goes to the trust as an adoption fee and the remaining $30.00 of this fee goes directly to DogsNZ in order to transfer Bobbie's pedigree papers. This must be completed upon adoption, as per current DogsNZ rules)
NOTE ON THE ADOPTION FEES AND TRIALS: Our adoption fees are determined by taking into account age of the dog, overall health and funds expended to date on that particular dog. The trust uses these adoption fee funds on: desexing surgery, micro-chip and NZCAR registration, vaccines, Council registration, flea and worm treatments, plus any other essentials dogs require such as specialist medications or food, blood-testing, orthopedic surgeries etc. and any other dog disposables required for dogs in care. Please note: sorry we do not accept payment plans, as we need to be sure adopters are able to financially support dogs prior to adoption - sorry, no exceptions. Please note: the deposit needs to be made to the trust account prior to the changeover date of the dog going on trial. We do not accept cash payments on the date. The full100% of all adoption fees go towards the dogs in the care of the Trust.
