Mr Darcy was surrendered to NZCR after his former female owner passed away. Mr Darcy lived with a couple and another dog (a Chihuahua cross) formerly.

Mr Dacy is a happy, friendly, inquisitive young man. Mr Darcy is very easy-going and some what submissive. He is very social with other dogs, fine with cats and children. Mr Darcy can also be playful when given a burst of energy and loves running around with his toys.

Mr Darcy is house trained and quite affectionate. All he wants is to have attention and be loved, he would make a great companion and gets attached to humans very easily. Mr Darcy is looking for the next love of his life to spend the his days with.

Mr Dacy is de-sexed, micro-chipped and has received updated vaccinations with NZCR. When Mr Darcy came to us, he needed to lose approximately 1kg as he was 4.1kg. Mr Darcy has now lost the weight, but his new owner will need to be committed to maintaining his weight loss.

Mr Darcy has a luxating patella, a common issue found in many  Chihuahuas.  Some Chihuahuas live happily with this condition - others require surgery once it reaches grade 4. We will have this assessed by our Vet to confirm the Grade.

While in foster care we have noticed that, at times, Mr Darcy can sometimes walk sideways and recently suffered one small seizure. As yet, we are unsure of the cause but we will be investigating this further. As a result, we cannot approve Mr Darcy as fit for adoption presently. That is why his status is marked as "under assessment". Once he is assessed, further updates will be provided on our social media and website.

Mr Darcy has been re-vet checked and his blood tests have come back normal. Mr Darcy will continue in foster care where his condition can be monitored while we fund raise for a brain scan. Once we can determine whether there are any long-lasting neurological issues or not, Mr Darcy will become available for adoption.

Adopter Requirements:

Preferably in the Canterbury Region for ease of transition. However, Mr Darcy is fairly relaxed and would be able to fly to a new home if the Adopter were willing to come and meet Mr Darcy first. See our adoption FAQ for the requirements associated with out of town adoptions.

Must have a fully-fenced yard with no holes or gaps.

Mr Darcy would benefit from an owner able to teach him the basic commands as he doesn't appear to know any.

No full time workers will be considered.  A retired person, someone who works for home or could take Mr Darcy to work with them is required. Particularly if he were the only dog in the household. Mr Darcy has a tendency to bark when left alone.

Mr Darcy would be suitable as a friend for another small breed dog (he lived with a Chihuahua cross previously). He is very social and easy-going.

Adoption Fee: TBC.
