Background:
Frank, formerly known as Tank was said to be "rescued" by his former owners from an animal hoarding situation. However, the new owners now do not feel they have enough time for him, and are unable to provide enough "structure" for him. Frank is also prone to escaping from their property which concerns them. No further details to provide.
Personality:
Frank’s former owners advise that he is good with children, other Chihuahuas, cats and other dog breeds! As we get to know him better, we will be able to test and confirm this. If this is the case, it is rare we get in dogs able to cope with all of the above!
Frank is very clever and learns quickly. But he needs an owner who is committed to his training. Being young and still in puppy-hood, he is working on his “good boy skills” and needs an owner able to keep up with this.
Frank is very affectionate (kissy) and cuddly. He is fine with strangers and great with people.
Frank was able to escape his former property. So as is the case with all of our dogs for adoption, he needs a secure property with full fencing and no holes or gaps. If you live rurally, stock fencing will obviously be inadequate. Tank needs at least a fenced in back yard and no ability to escape out the front door (baby gates can be useful for this purpose) safety is the priority with Tank and his Houdini skills!
Tank will bark to alert you to any visitors. For this reason, a back section property or one without too many neighbors / cars or view to the street, will be ideal. But also, barking inappropriately can be lessened with training. Again, commitment to his training will be key!
Tank is a young dog, full of energy, who enjoys adventures and walks. He would not be a match for someone wanting a quiet retired life. He ought to be walked 1-2 times per day. He would be fine in a busy family environment (however - we don't adopt to families with children younger than 6 years)
Health:
Frank will be attending the vet on 20/06/2022 to have:
- His overall check over and his vaccines brought up to date (a new vet book completed).
- A dental under anesthesia to remove retained baby teeth (common for Chihuahuas) .
- Plus a microchip inserted which we will register with the NZCAR and local Council.
Frank is on the lighter side, so we will add some conditioning to him. He is very active!
Frank was flea and worm treated on 16/06/2022 and will be treated every 3 months while in trust care, to be continued by the Adopter. His next date is 16/09/2022.
Frank will be adopted out de-sexed, vaccinated up to date, micro-chipped (with the chip registered with the NZ Companion Animal Register and the local Council) as all of our dogs are. Having also had his dental.
Adopter Requirements:
***** PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR TANK: we do not often receive in dogs like Tank and have a wait-list of applicants that we also consult when dogs come into care. Tank has an adopter match and will be going on trial following completion of his medical. For this reason, we recommend submitting a detailed application of what needs you have for a rescue dog, so we can match you if one enters care. We also have several other dogs looking for loving homes noted on our website!*****
PLEASE NOTE: Before applying for our dogs, please do read the above adopter requirements and ensure that you meet these. We are very clear about the homes we are seeking. We set the adopter requirements after consultation with the foster carers and consideration of the dogs, needs, welfare and personality. They are strict requirements - no exceptions. Please do not submit an application if you do not meet the above, we will simply respond to confirm the application is declined. Unfortunately, at times this has been the case and we have had to disappoint prospective adopters. This is why we are clear about our requirements prior and note them above.
Adoption Fee: $600.00 to be paid to the NZCR trust account no. 03-0823-0074502-000.
PLEASE NOTE - RE: THE ADOPTION FEES AND TRIALS: Our adoption fees are determined by taking into account age of the dog, overall health and funds expended to date on that particular dog. The trust uses these adoption fee funds on: de-sexing surgery, micro-chip and NZCAR registration, vaccines, Council registration, flea and worm treatments, plus any other essentials dogs require such as specialist medications or food, blood-testing, orthopaedic surgeries etc. and any other dog disposables required for dogs in care. Please note: sorry we do not accept payment plans, as we need to be sure adopters are able to financially support dogs prior to adoption - sorry, no exceptions. Please note: the deposit needs to be made to the trust account prior to the changeover date of the dog going on trial. We do not accept cash payments on the date. The full100% of all adoption fees go towards the dogs in the care of the Trust.
