Dogs in Care with New Zealand Chihuahua Rescue

1. STEP ONE: determine whether any of the dogs in our care are a match for your household:

2. STEP TWO: review the adoption criteria noted on the dogs' profile (honestly) to see if you are likely to be a match for their needs:

• We "match" dogs to owners based on their adopter requirements. To avoid disappointment, please read their profiles carefully to determine whether you honestly meet their requirements. If you do, please apply! 

3. STEP THREE: apply by completing our adoption application:

• If you determine you are a match for the dog, complete the adoption application, together with the enclosures noted on the form. 

Can you call me to discuss the dogs or plan a meeting instead?

• We don't call Applicants or plan any meet/greets until that first step is completed. Our dogs are with foster families so we aim to minimise disruption to their schedules unless we know the Applicant is likely to be a suitable match. Read more by clicking on the "adoption" tab.

• No, sorry. We don't call prospective applicants to take down their details or meet them without their application form. This is the first step for everyone seeking to adopt from our rescue.

• Why? We are a small, passionate team of volunteers who work full-time outside the rescue while balancing our own pets and family commitments. The adoption application is comprehensive, efficient and allows us to consider applicants who will match each dog. Thank you for your understanding.

• Need assistance? We understand it may be difficult for some to complete the form or access a computer. If you need help, please contact a public library, or internet cafe to access the internet and/or a friend or family member to assist you.

• If the current dogs above are not available in your  location or you're not a match for their adopter requirements. You can still submit an adoption application and we will hold your details in our database.

•  At times, we may have other dogs in our care that former owners request we do not advertise. In this case,  we exclusively seek out adopters from our database. So, we encourage you to submit an adoption application if you are looking for a companion, but the current ones don't suit. 

• If we already have an application from you (within the last 6 months) and you see a dog advertised who would be a match for you - please email us.

• If anything changes since you apply, please contact us to update your details so we have your current circumstances in our database to be considered.

•  Adopter requirements are not noted to offend or exclude adopters. They are determined by the team who know the dog well. We are transparent about the homes each dog will require.  

• We ask you to be as detailed as possible in your adoption application - so we know what kind of home you offer and the traits you need in a companion.

• Please do not email us asking what dogs are available or sending information about your personal situation and asking for us to call you.

• We don't keep those details, to be considered for a dog with NZCR you must submit the adoption application.
